Formula to change cells base on staff allocation

    Hello

I am setting up a small staff spreadsheet to keep track of our job allocation.

I enter a series of data into a row and allocate this to a staff member by entering there initials.

I would like this entire row to change color based on the said staff members initials to allow each staff member to see each job based on colour

Can someone help me write this formula as I am a beginner

I have attached a screenshot of the base spreadsheet, for example every time I enter JD withing "allocated to" I would like to change the row colour to green, every time I enter ES withing "allocated to" I would like to change the row colour to blue etc

    Hi, welcome to the forum

You would use Conditional Formatting for this, find it on the Home Tab under Styles/Conditional Formatting. You would need to set up a new rule for each person you need to apply this to.

Also, please upload a small (clean) sample workbook (not a pic) of what you are working with, and what your expected outcome would look like.

hey johnso1985. not sure what you mean by allocated to "I". but to highlight the row when column G shows JD:
select the range you want to apply to (say from A4:J10)
in Excel 2007 & above, go to Home -> Conditional Formatting -> New Rule -> Use a formula to determine which cells to format -> Format values where this formula is true:
in Excel 2003, go to Format -> Conditional Formatting -> Formula is:
    =$G4="JD"

Format the colors desired. repeat the steps for ES
