Changing cell colour by entering 1 in cell

How do I change cell colour when I put say 1 in the cell? I'm making a chart where I have the months of the year along the top and various activities on the side. By typing in 1 in the appropriate cell I want that cell to turn a specified colour, say green. Can I do this with Excel 2007?

Chose target cell
Go to conditional formatting
Goto new rule
Select use a formula to determine.....
Go to box of cell collection
Example:
M4
Add equation

=$M4<>""
Go to formats in the same box
Select fill
Chose your colour
Green
ok
Again ok
Under this window
You can select all cells you need to include in the rule.

Many thanks x_ampl1 for quick response. I have a problem. This solution only works on individual cells. Does this mean I have to format every individual cell? I've got a lot of them.

Of course, if you want to restrict it to shading ONLY those cells containing a 1 (ignoring text and other numbers, use

=B1=1 as the CF formula.

Does it work properly with the $ before the column letter, as suggested at Post #2??

I've tried x_ample1's solution without $ sign and it works. Your solution needs the $ sign unless I'm doing it wrong.🙂
