Question Can somebody review my formula - it doesn't look right to me.

    Hey guys,

Firstly, I hope this is in the right area (I looked at all the sub headings, and thought this would be the most appropriate place to post it. If not, I apologize.).

I'm working on a very simple spreadsheet to help me analyze the cost(s) of various protein powders (a health supplement). Column 'M' is the one that concerns me the most. This is more of a mathematical/formula question.

If you'll notice, cell B4 has a greater value than B3. The PRICE PER SERVING (column L) looks about right to me, but in column 'M' it states they both have the exact same cost per gram of protein. Maybe it's just me but...that doesn't look right.

    Can anybody offer some advice?

FOR SOME REASON, I AM UNABLE TO UPLOAD MY FILE. I'VE TRIED TWO DIFFERENT BROWSERS BUT STILL NO LUCK! CAN I SEND THIS TO SOMEBODY SO THEY CAN UPLOAD IT FOR REVIEW???

Look at the bottom of my original post (in red). It won't allow me to upload it.

It's not working. I think it might be a browser/site issue. When I click on "Attachments", I don't see the dialog box allowing me to choose the file, that would normally appear. Instead, I just get a blank white field.

M3 and M4 are not 'exactly' the same.
Extend the decimals out to 4 or 5 and you'll see a difference.

Increase the decimals and you will see the difference. Round off to 2 decimal places gives you the same value.

Ok, I did that just now, but the values seem somewhat....insignificant. Yes, the values did change but here's what it produced :

    M3 now = 0.043284
    M4 now = 0.042863

Is my math / formulas correct? Because if so, then it changes how I look at which one to buy.

    Your math is correct.
Although B4>b3, but L4>L3 by about the same percentage. That's why M4 and M3 are very close.

Excel doesn't lie. The math is correct.

    B4 is > B3
    As is
    L4 is > L3

It's a reasonable coincidence (actually not a coincidence at all..it's math) that these divisions have similar results
    L4/B4 and L3/B3

Now that I have the formula verified as being correct, I guess I just have to work on analyzing it. I just don't understand how the price per serving can be different, when the price per gram of protein is almost identical. I mean....the difference between those numbers (to me) looks so insignificant. Yes, the math doesn't lie but I would have thought that if the price per serving is higher, than the price per gram of protein would be higher as well. Than again, one product offers more protein than the other. Anyhoo....I'm good for now.
Thanks a lot guys. You were of great assistance.
