    Meaning of the Formula

    Dear All,

I am new in Excel and was trying to learn through some worked out example. In one of the example I got the following formula. what does the colon after 65 means. It is from an old excel file of year 2012. Does it mean that there is a bracket starting at b1 and ending after 65?

    =b1*60*c1/65:6*2*22.2

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Namaste!

As you focus on the meaning of colon in your example, my answer is this:

It refers to the entire cells between the rows 6 to 65 (although there is 65:6 in your query) of another sheet, not the same! Whatever you type in sheet 1 (within 6:65) will be displayed in the corresponding cells in sheet 2 wherever a formula like =sheet1!6:65 is inserted.I mean, if you type "a" in sheet1 A6 and type =sheet1!6:65 in A6 in sheet 2, it also shows "a". A very simple model attatched here may clarify it.

This method has some advantages but you can use simpler ideas in most cases.
    Thank you!

    Re: Meaning of the Formula

    Hi

The colon normally signifys a range so consequently does not make sense in this context. Are there any other component parts to the formula if not it should return an error of #Value!

    Cheers

    "65:6" is the range.

I don't think, this formula will give desired output. So please attach your worksheet if you have an issue with..
