    Extract information from two different sources, based on a condition

    Needing to shorten the version to more manageable groupings. Column D contains the long version, but in some cases, it returns "Other". For most of those situations, the version will appear in the Install Path. How can I adjust the formula in column A to account for "Other" in column D, and return the year and . version appearing in the path?

    Not sure if it will work on all instances (actually, I know it won't). But try something like...

    If possible list all potential patterns that could appear. Likely best solution is to utilize VBA.

    I do like your formula.... There's a nice little twist in it that hadn't occurred to me before. However, I think we do need to see more representative samples of where it doesn't work....

    So please show us more of its failures....

    Sorry for the delay, and hoping to that you can still help. Amended spreadsheet attached, with all occurrences of error from data. Suggestions?
