[SOLVED] Create a table based on top ranking criteria, based on multiple fields.

    Hi -

How would I take the dataset in A1:C27 and create something like the table in E5:G12?

It's three things: (1) For each unique value in Column A, (2) I want Column B's top-two results from Column C, and (3) I want to count them. So would this be best done in a pivot table or a formula?

hi there. a pivot table might help you.
    click on cell A1
go to INSERT tab -> PivotTable
    click OK
on the right side of the Excel window is the PivotTable Fields. that controls what you wish to see in the report
click and drag the Months Before Raise to the FILTERS area
click and drag the Dept, Job Field to the ROWS area
click and drag the DeptField to the VALUES area

go to the DESIGN tab -> Report Layout -> Show in Tabular Form
go to the DESIGN tab -> Report Layout -> Repeat all item labels
go to the DESIGN tab -> Subtotal -> Do not show Subtotals
go to the DESIGN tab -> Grand Totals -> Off for Rows and Columns

Click on cell B1's dropdown. Select Multiple items
choose 3 and 5. press OK

    right-click on B3 -> Filter -> Top 10
    change it to Top 2.
    press OK
