How to sort or group & collect data - Best function?

    Hi,

I'm a relative novice when it comes to Excel.

I have uploaded a basic spreadsheet with a list of items.

What I need to do is sort/group & summarise on the 'Client Reference(s)'.

Other than filtering, a tedious and manual exercise, is there another way wherein I can simply enter a formula or function which will then sub-total on the references shown perhaps in another sheet?

    Thanks.

Remove blank rows and columns and use PivotTable

Sandy - Thanks. This is an example. The actual document that I'm working on has 1000's of rows so it'll take too long to have to go in and remove all blank rows. Is there a function like SUBTOTAL etc. that may work? Cheers.

Thumbs down Re: How to sort or group & collect data - Best function?

Hi, one way of obtaining your request is to sum the items conditionally by using
Please Login or Register to view this content.
with this function one can sum up quantities that meet certain criteria, in your case the client reference which is in column H. Specifically in your case make a list of the clients in the B column in sheet2 and in column C type

. Then copy it down to the other client references. The client reference table is created in sheet2.

so use "as is" and filter by blank then turn on subtotal in pivottable

I don't know what you want to achieve so prepare PT by yourself

Thanks for this. It's worked. I've cleaned it up & it only took 5 mins so all good.
