numerical format is not being recognized

My formula =Barrels "&G16/55 is returning "Barrels 7.07135(ect.)", which is calculated correctly. I would like to abbreviate the returned calculation to "Barrels 7.1". The cell is already formatted to carry just one digit past the decimal point, but that format is not being recognized because of the formate.
