Extract count of dates with Month and Year criteria

Hi Team,

I have project details in column A, dates in Column B and Status in Column C.
Now, I have another table like below in another sheet with the below information (Summary).

2017 Open Closed

August
September
October
November
December



I want to know (without using helper column(s) or Pivot Table) how many projects are open/close in each month and year.
