Vlookup function but for words

    Hi,

I have two separate lists (List 1 & 2) with translations of words/terms from English, Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian. So column A has the English translations with each word on it's own row, B = Swedish etc.

List 1 has about 700 terms translated, and List 2 has about 1400 terms translated.

I want to find out and sort which of the terms in List 2 already exists in List 1. And then sort them so that I can compare how they have been translated to each language in both of the lists. I will use the English translations to match between the two lists.

I thought you could do the same as when you match two lists with numbers with the Vlookup function, but that doesn't seem to work with words? How can I do this?

VLOOKUP will work with TEXT or Numbers

....Attach a sample workbook (not image).

Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate.

Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

As John said, vlookup can be used for both text and numeric. If it is not finding text you know it should, then the "match" is not identical. Check for typos, leading/trailing spaces etc
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
