Cannot find a formula that converts fine grades, to whole grades......

First of all, 'Hi' to everyone.

I've recently been made Data Manager at a secondary school in the UK, and that means LOTS of Excel is needed. I have watched some of the excellent Mike Girvin's videos on YouTube under his Excel Is Fun banner, but I'm searching for something that, on the face of it, sounds simple - but I'm a bit stumped.

I have columns on worksheets that see students' exam target grades at 6+, 6, 6- etc for example, and these numbers with + or - are called 'fine grades'. I want to copy into a column called 'Strong Grades', which are whole numbers. So, I'm looking for the formula that every time it sees a 7- or a 7+ for example, it converts it to a simple 7; 6- or 6+ becomes just an ordinary 6, and so on.

Is this easily done? I'm sorry for asking something so basic, but I'm just a bit puzzled.

    All the best.

Hi all- it appears that you have amended your title, so:
This discards the sign and returns positive numbers:

...while this returns negative OR positive numbers:
