Filter function not working correctly.

Excel 2010.

Never had this occur previously:

I copied and pasted the data in this workbook from another workbook.

I select "Filter" for a column (the following happens regardless of which column I select in this worksheet).

E.g., the cells in the column state either "Y" or "N".

I select only "Y" in the filter.

Every cell in that column changes to "Y".

Anotherwords, instead of only showing me the "Y"s which were there and filtering out the "N"s, it changes all the "N"s to "Y"s and the pre-existing "Y"s remain such.

If I go back to the filter having everything checked ("Select all"), all the cells go back to having the correct data again.

Doesn't make much sense to me either. Can't see why your cells are changing automatically unless there is some code in the workbook.

Right click the sheet in question and select view code. Is there anything there?

If not, maybe you should post the offending workbook so we can see what's going on!

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

I'm not seeing a "View Code" option.

The workbook is open and I tried right clicking on empty cells and on filled cells in the row in question, but don't see that option.

Seems like the next step is to see what you are working with.

At least if I'm interpreting the "View Code" page correctly - There is no formula showing nor any text in the large main sections of the page.

I'm going to try making a copy of the workbook.
Also cut and paste the data in that row into another book, then paste it back and making sure which paste method I'm using.

If I can't solve it in those ways, will follow your suggestion and post the workbook.

I think instead of desensitizing the sheet, will simply remove all except the data in that one row (Just "Y" and "N").

Did a search for Desensitizing the data, looks a bit complex and I guess unnecessary if I remove all but that row.

We just don't want you to post any personal information. Address, social security numbers, bank account numbers etc. Basically data about people who would not be happy to know you are posting information about them.

Here's a copy of the workbook - I've deleted all but one column but it does what I described.

The material was copied and pasted into the workbook - the originals came from a workbook where many of the columns did have a formula but this is from a column which shouldn't have had one.

I just checked an earlier workbook which had data copied and pasted into it from the same source,and that workbook also has the same problem.

I'm going to "Go Advanced", "Manage Attachments" and Browsing, selecting the file from my computer, and "Upload".
It then showed it a few inches below as "Attachment" or "File Attached" - something like that.
So I clicked on "Close this page" but it then logs me out.

When I try to log back in it keeps rejecting me until I clear cache and cookies. When I'm logged back in I see that the worksheet is not attached to my post.

Have gone thru that cycle 4 times now.

Figured out the download.

You can see that with Row A - apply filter, uncheck "All" and leave only e.g. "nhl" that all cells become "nhl" instead of it filtering out everything but "nhl".

I'm still not seeing what you are seeing. A little confused honestly.

There are 564 records. I turn on the filter and select "only" nhl. I get 203 of 564 records found.

I then clear the filter and now I'm back to 564 records. If I "deselect" nhl and leave everything else checked I get 361 of 564 records found.

All records remain as is. BTW, on the file you posted not sure why you had row 2 blank.
