    calculating in multibles

    Hi,

I having issues getting a formula right, i have a little experience with writing formulas but this is beyond me. I have a sheet where i calculate weights of items we manufacture we send these out to get coated and then they return to us once finished. I want a cell to automatically calculate the cost of the transport for me based on the over all weight of the job.

i have a known cost to transport say $120.00 return trip. This is in a separate cell as sometimes this changes.

    1. I want the cell to calculate a few things for me. Once there is a weight registered in the "Total weight" cell I want the cell to allow for the cost of 1 return trip of transport : ie $120.00, but if the weight is 0 have a return value of $0 for Transport cost.
    2. i also want the same cell to work out once the weight gets above 8000kgs to multiply the cost by 2 so it allows for another load and so on in multiples of 8000 kgs.

so if i have 36000 kgs it works out that i need 5 loads at a cost of $600.00

it is really the second part of the formula i have trouble with as i have the first part working already with an IF function.

    thanks.

    Re: calculating in multibles

so between 1 to 8000 its 120 regardless
over 8000kg its round up to nearest 8000?

i did a very simple mock up for you
you can change the costings to your liking

basic formula driving the whole thing

    Formula: copy to clipboard

INT to round to nearest 8000
the +1 is for when you got over 8000 its another truck
replace F6 and F5 with the number you want in case you didnt want it in cell
    ie F6 with 600 and F5 with 120

let me know if you need further explanation
