Formula to select figures in a column for summation.

Please Guys, I'm looking for a formula in Cell E2, that will select and ADD figures from Cells C2 to C5 taking into consideration the list of the products names under "TYRE NAME". For instance, selecting "Bridgestone"under "TYRE NAME", the quantity bought for C2 is "10" and for C5 is "11". In between these two Cells are different TYRE NAMES. I'm therefore expecting the formula in E2 to produce the figure or number "21" for the quantity bought for Bridgestone.
    I'm grateful.
    Ike.

Please attach a sample of your workbook if you are able to. It's difficult to determine without seeing the entire sheet.

Grateful for your advice. In fact, I tried looking for the attachment tool but it didn't seem to work for me. Can you please show me where to find it? I'm grateful.

Attach a sample workbook (not image).

Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate.

Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

Hi John, I just tried to follow the procedure you showed me for adding an attachment, and this is the message I got.

Without a sheet I have no visual to work with, but I am assuming you have a column for TYRE NAME, and somewhere else in a cell you are specifying which brand you want to total? For argument's sake, say column A has the brand, and cell K1 has the name of the brand you want to sum... change those as needed:

In this formula A2:A5 is the area where we should check for a match, K1 is the value to be matched, and C2:C5 is the range where if it was a match, the numbers should be added up.

Thanks greatly for that effort without any sheet sheet to work with. I'm trying to upload this sample sheet. Hope it helps. Thanks again.

But you said "after selecting Brigdestone" ... where do you "select" bridgestone? What I mean is, how is the formula in E2 supposed to know whether you want Bridgestone or Dunlop

Re: Formula to select figures in a column for summation.

I added another drop down in E1 so you can select which Tyre Name you want the total for... hopefully this is ok?

You can change the A2:A5 to A:A and the same for column C in the formula in E2, if you just want the whole column, which will mean not having to adjust the formula as rows are added to the data.

No worries Jecando, I'm not sure why you would think my patience was required, but happy I could help out
