Question Noob question - Margin formula based on drop down menu.

Hi folks, first time poster so please be gentle!

I am putting together a pricebook and want to have a list of products with an option to have a drop down margin selector list i.e. 30%, 40% etc.

So I want to have product description, quantity, unit cost, total cost, margin, unit sell, total sell.

The goal is to have it that once the user selects the appropriate margin it automatically fills in unit sell and total sell based on the quantity and cost fields.

Hopefully that makes sense and somebody can help me getting started.

Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forum

Yup, that makes perfect sense

Firstly, there is nothing magical about a drop down (data Validation). It works the same as if you entered the data into that cell manually, the only real differences being that it saves typing, helps avoid typos and can restrict entry to what you specify.

So, having said that, you could apply your margin with rge exact same formula you would use if you just typed the margin in...
=if(D2="","",D2*(1-E2)
assuming total cost is in D, Margin is in E and you want to reduce TC by that margin (adjust my formula as needed)
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: Noob question - Margin formula based on drop down menu.

Margin is a percent of sell, so if col D is cost and col E is margin,

=if(D2 = "", "", D2 / (1 - E2))
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate
