Data Validation with Forumlas

Hello,

I am looking at a spreadsheet whereby people enter their start time and end time and through a =sum formal, it gives a numerical figure (in hours)

I want to set up validation so that the number of hours can never exceed 3hrs regardless of how long they work. I have tried adding data validation for whole numbers but as the number is calculated via a formula, it allows any figure.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

You can't validate something when you haven't explained what format they enter the time in, nor what the formula is.

Answer these two questions.

1. What do they enter? a start and end time like this

09:00
11:30

or

0900
1130

or something else?

2. What is the SUM formula ?
