Vlookup issue - value seem to be "delayed" by 1 row

    Excel.PNG

The VLOOKUP function seem to be not getting the correct value as the value is "delayed" by 1 row. Can anyone help on this? Thank you so much.

Welcome to the forum! Please take a moment to re-read forum rule #1 and then amend your thread title to something that better explains your problem. Changing your thread title is not optional, which means you must change it. Thanks!

    • Use concise, accurate thread titles.
    • Your post title should describe your specific problem, not your anticipated solution.
    • Use terms appropriate to a Google search - poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice tell us nothing.
    • Responding to a request to change your thread title by doing so is mandatory.

To change a title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title.

No help to be offered, please, until the OP complies with this request.

    Re: Vlookup issue

I think you have the wrong column. Try changing the 7 to a 6 in your formula.

EDIT: No, it's to do with matches. Please attach the workbook here.

Re: Vlookup issue - value seem to be "delayed" by 1 row

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Re: Vlookup issue - value seem to be "delayed" by 1 row

One way, using an array formula:
    =IF(J8="","",IFERROR(INDEX(G:G,1/(1/MAX(ISNUMBER(SEARCH(J8,$A$8:$A$12))*ROW($A$8:$A$12)))),"No Match"))

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...

Is this what you are looking for:

    =VLOOKUP("*"&J8&"*",$A$8:$H$12,7,FALSE)
