Apply default VLOOKUP to column cells without adding rows

I have a data validation list. When an element in the list is chosen a VLOOKUP in another cell sets the correct looked up value.
Adding the data validation list as "default" to a column works fine, but the VLOOKUP function is treated as an entry and applying it to a whole column leads to having a million empty rows (apart from the specified VLOOKUP).
Is there any way to set a function as default for new rows?

I don't understand. Can you post a sample workbook showing the issue?

Go Advanced -> Manage Attachments -> Upload

EDIT - Maybe you need to be using a table???? Not sure.

Re: Apply default VLOOKUP to column cells without adding rows

The attachment button doesn't work for me in Firefox nor Chrome, maybe it's because I'm a new user and not to be trusted... Can't share links either, but maybe a tricky workaround can work https drive.google.com /file/d/1hIAA85sd0WAG7LiZ7bDZ1y3COGP_GWhQ/view?usp=sharing

So in the B column the list validation is there if I add a new row, however applying the VLOOKUP in column D to All of column D adds a million rows.

Attach a file in this manner

Go Advanced -> Manage Attachments -> Upload per Kerplash's instructions

The attachment button does not work on this site.

Re: Apply default VLOOKUP to column cells without adding rows

I took your suggestion kersplash, created a table and lo and behold, it pulls the formula and applies it to new rows! I don't know how or why but this is great, thank you SO much!
