Auto Fill on a Large Grid of Data

    Hello!

I'm trying to fill a grid from the data within the first row and first column of said grid.

I can't figure out how to make the data meet on the diagonal without doing it manually, and this grid goes on forever!

Any help would be appreciated, I've attached a screenshot partially filled to help show my problem.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kera

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

OK, but you haven't told us how the data inside the grid relates to the row and column headings. For example, why is the intersection of 50 and 50 just 40? I know it's obvious to you, but I haven't a clue - sorry.

Re: Auto Fill on a Large Grid of Data

    I'm with you, sorry!

The column and row headings are the width and height of an object measured in mm.
A heading combination of 50 and 55 is an object 50x55mm in size. A combination of 50 and 50 is 50x50mm etc.

The intersection number is the number of times the object can be placed on a page measuring 450x320mm, allowing a gap of 5mm between each placement. So the intersection of 50 and 50 shows the object can be placed 40 times.

As another example the intersection of 74 and 53 (an object 74x53mm) can be placed 23 times on to the specified page size with a 5mm margin.

The aim is to fill each cross section with the number of times that object can be placed within 320x450mm including a 5mm gap.

Right! Well, I feel better now for not knowing that immediately when I saw the grid.

So, the next question is how do you calculate this manually? If you want Excel to do it for you, you have to give it some parameters with which to calculate.
