Copying an array formula down keeps copying data in top row

    Hi there,

I have a spreadsheet where an array formula is stored in the top row. This formula pulls across data from another tab in relation to a unique identifier in the tab I'm working on.

However, when I try and copy the formula down to update the spreadsheet, even when I do ctrl + shft + enter it always just copies down same data as in the first row rather than looking at the data in tab it's meant to be looking in.

It's always worked in the past so I don't understand why this is happening now.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen?

    Thanks,

Check how the cells are referenced in the formula, ie. '$' sign present or not.

    Maybe post your formula.

Best thing is to copy the formula to a safe place, then delete all instances of it. Re-enter it in the first cell and make sure that you enter it fully using CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER BEFORE you attempt to drag copy it down.

ahhh I think that may have been my problem, I was dragging the formula across then doing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. I didn't realise you did this before dragging the formula across. Thanks ! I think that works now.

Although, if you want to drag an array formula from cell A1 across AND down, do you have to do; CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER, then drag it across, then do CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER and then drag it down?

No, you do the CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER once only. After that, you can drag across and then down, or vice versa. Bear in mind, though, that if at any point you place your cursor inside one of these cells and accidentally press ENTER, then you will have cancelled the array entry for that cell, so be careful!

If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
