Need help finding "Average cost per square metre". Can't think of how to do this. Any help is very appreciated.
Also, the cells labeled "Hallway Total" and "Deck Total", are all their parts added up.

This will find the average:
=SUM($F$5:$G$24)/COUNT($F$5:$F$24)
Your division by 18 is incorrect! F5 to F24 is 20.

I divided by 18 because i also had to exclude the hallway total. Does this formula also exclude the hallway? Thanks!
No, but your count is still wrong - it should be 19.
Try this:
=(SUMIF($A$5:$A$24,"<>Hallway Total",$F$5:$F$24)+SUMIF($A$5:$A$24,"<>Hallway Total",$G$5:$G$24))/COUNT($B$5:$B$24)
Oh sorry, Thank you!
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
Im sorry to bother, but how does this formula exclude the Hallway? Im pretty new to excel so i don't really understand this formula. Thanks!
Wait nevermind i understand now. Thanks for your time, ill be sure to add reputation! Thanks heaps!
The sections in red:
=(SUMIF($A$5:$A$24,"<>Hallway Total",$F$5:$F$24)+SUMIF($A$5:$A$24,"<>Hallway Total",$G$5:$G$24))/COUNT($B$5:$B$24)
If you use Evaluate Formula on the Formulas ribbon to step through the formula, you will see how it works. SUMIF and SUMIFS help you to sum ranges with criteria. In this case, "<>Hallway Total" means ignore any row with Hallway Total in column A.
You're welcome!
Please mark the thread as solved as requested in post #6.
Rule 08: Cross-posting Without Telling Us
It has come to our attention that your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not cross-post your question on multiple forums without telling us about your threads on other forums.
Post a link to any other forums where you have asked the same question. If you have fewer than 10 posts here, you will not be able to post a link, but you must still tell us where else you have asked the question.
Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.
Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!
Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).
If you have less than 10 posts, do not try to copy and paste the link. Instead, type the link out in your thread.
Do NOT cross-post in future without sharing that information, both here and on the other forum(s).
