I have a three level sort on an excel table that I want to keep.
However, sometimes I want to filter my table to on see some items.
When I go to clear my filter, my sort keeps going away but I want to keep it.
Any ideas?

Add an entire new column (preferably Column A OR B OR C). Label column INDEX ~ which is your data in the 3 level sorted table....In the index column, use numbers ranked from 1 to LastNumber. You can use this column (Index) in place for your 3 level sort (and can now resort based on the newly Created Index Column
Use the filters to get the sort you want, then turn off the filter (remove the filter). This will keep the sort the way you have it, now reapply the filter and filter as you want.

The index column doesnt work here - its a dynamic sort depending on due dates and priority levels so the order is always changing as things come onto the list and get completed.
Sambo - so you're saying I just need to click the column that has the filter and specifically click to clear that filter. I guess my issue was using the alt A C shortcut which was also clearing my sort. Is that correct?
I'm not clear if you are using the custom sort feature or the filters under the data tab. So my recommendation is based on the second option, using the filters under the data tab.
In this instance you set your filters to sort the columns you want, then remove the filter and the data will stay the same way. Then you reapply the filters to the columns and sort the way you want.
If you are using the custom sort on the home tab then I would recommend you sort the way you want then use a helper column and number it sequentially then apply your filters to sort the way you want then filter on the helper column to return to your original sort. I think this is what queuesef is recommending in post #2.
