Latest Date Based on Multiple Criteria

Hi! I need a little help. I'm working with something similar to the pic below. I'm looking to identify the date that the setup was completed for each serial number. It's a report that I'll be adding to on a weekly basis.

Basically, I'm looking to find that latest date in the "Created Date" column for each serial number that is labeled as "Setup" in the "Service Type" column. So, for example, SN ABC001 would be 10/15/2016.

Any ideas on a formula that I can use?

    File should be attached.

    Thanks!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Latest Date Based on Multiple Criteria

Are you using 2016 or 365?

Reason I ask is 365 has a MAXIFS function that will do this for you the easy way.
If 2016 then you can use an array formula to do the same, but not quite so easily (there are other ways, but also not as straightforward as the 365 MAXIFS function).

If you want a more tailor made solution / exact formula then please attach a sample workbook rather than a picture of one.
We cannot tell what rows/column are involved from your pic.

It's 2016. I also attached the file. I thought I had attached it to the original post, but I guess I didn't. Sorry!

Re: Latest Date Based on Multiple Criteria

If you put the below formula in G2 (it's an array formula so needs to be confirmed with Ctrl+Shift+Enter) and copy down, does that do what you need?
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Not wise to use an array formula on entire columns (it'll grind to a halt), but if you need to add to the data then you can adjust it to work from dynamic named ranges so they expand/contract as data is added/removed.

    Happy to help

And if you ever upgrade to 365, you could use:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

With no need to CSE confirm it.
