How to subtract a percent from a value?

    hi excelers,
sounds simply but how does one subtract a percent from a value?
    example:

    50%-100 = 50
    30%-30 = 10
    etc

star for the first solution *_*

    I don't understand. How is 50%-100 = 50 or 30%-30 = 10?

Also your tile asks how to subtract a percent from a value but these two samples are subtracting a value from a percent.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

    Your examples look like:

    50% of 100 = 50
    30% of 30 = 10

although the second one is not quite right (should be 33.3% of 30 = 10).

If this is correct, then the of is equivalent to multiply, not subtract.

    Hope this helps.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

If however you mean that you want to substract 30% from 10 then you would need to multiply by the inverse ie x 70% or calculate the 30% and then deduct it eg

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

    =1-0.1

    or

    =100%-10%

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

    Try this:

    =!00% - 10%

Of course, you could have those values in two cells, where A1 ==> 100%, and B1 ==> 10%, then you could do:

    =A1-B1

    Hope this helps.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

Forgive me for pointing this out!

The solutions we are offering are very basic: just a little bit of trial and error on your part in an Excel workbook would answer most of these things without recourse to the forums. We are more than happy to help you, of course, but remember that your workbook will not self-destruct if you try a few things for yourself. That's how some of us have learnt.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

here is some extra details which I am trying to do.
sorry I find it hard to explain so here is three examples:

    10% - 100% = 90%
    30% - 90% = 60%
    50% - 50% = 25%

These are not mathematically correct, so you are going to have to explain in words what your logic is.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

    I will try:

I am trying to subtract a percent from a other percent if that is possible?
bit like slicing a cake into smaller bits...the second percent values is always sees as a values not percent, so for example if I ask what is 50%- 50%= ? I am really saying what is 50% - 50 = 25

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

But that's not 50%-50%, is it?

    Try this:

    =50-50%

If you want any further help, remove the solved tag.

Re: How to subtract a percent from a value?

I said earlier that of is equivalent to multiply, so do this:

    =50% * 50%

    Hope this helps.
