Proper use of table references in Conditional Formatting

Is there any way to use a table reference (e.g. Table1[Fieldname]) in a Conditional Formatting formula? I'm thinking here about the workarounds for referencing tables in Data Validation using the Indirect function, and wonder if there might be a trick to outsmarting Excel Conditional Formatting. I realize, of course, that I could use direct cell referencing if there were no other option.

Define a name, point it at the table column, then refer to that name in the CF formula.
