Average every 7th Column, until end of data

    Hi Excel peoples.

I have the following formulae that does not work as expected.

I have one row of data that I wish to average every 7th Column. The 1st cell to average starts at X10

    =AVERAGE(OFFSET($X$10,,(COLUMNS($X$10:X10)-1)*7,,7))

    Any thoughts.

You could use AVERAGEIFS if the column header for the columns you wish to average is different to the others. Maybe attach a workbook? No way to troubleshoot without one.

In the absence of a sample sheet, your description could be a bit ambiguous.

If you want to average X10, AE10, AL10, etc, use this array formula:

    =AVERAGE(IF(MOD(COLUMN(X10:BG10)-COLUMN(X10),7)=0,X10:BG10,""))

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...
