Lightbulb Using a Dropdown List to populate another cell

Looking for help on a formula please! For the purpose of allocating expenses on an expense tracking sheet

Cell C2 - contains value pasted from outside of the workbook
Cell D2 - contains a dropdown list populated with the column names from Cell E1-R1

    Step one, populate C2
Step two, select the appropriate dropdown

Formula in question; what is the formula needed in Cells E2-R2 so that if the column name corresponds to the dropdown selected it populates the information from Cell C2?

Hopefully this makes senses and is an easy fix!

    TIA!!

Re: Using a Dropdown List to populate another cell

Thank you Richard for your quick reply!

This worked for the first cell but not the others..

Going to try to copy paste. I've bolded the columns in question. I placed the same formula in the other cells on row 2 and tried to change the dropdown (in this case "Personal"to BV Dundas") and see the formula is the coorseponding to the correct colum but does not populate row 2's corresponding cell. Thoughts?

ROW 1 Date Description Statement Value (CDN) Statement Value (USD) Allocated to Amount (US) Personal CSS BV David JVC Vegas 27 North Drive Travel M & E G & A Uber/Parking Phone Vehicle Expense Office Supplies Materials Fines Total

    ROW 2 9/19/2018 LA VITA COMPOUNDING PHA SAN DIEGO 35.92 26.95 Personal 26.95 35.92 35.92

Would you upload the workbook you are using so that I may see in context.

Re: Using a Dropdown List to populate another cell

    Hi,

Your original cell refs bear no resemblance to the latest layout. We often find that when we give an answer to what is a trivial non representative example when the solution is used with the real world data it doesn't work because of factors like string length and other stuff which is important but hasn't been mentioned. As has happened here. This just wastes time.

The formula is working consistently as far as I can see but it requires all strings to be spelled correctly. For instance talke out the trailing space in I7, i.e. "BV Dundas", not "BV Dundas " and I9 will return a value if BV Dundas is selected in E9

    ditto "G & A " in O7, P7 and others.
