Post Trying to find out the number of unique items based on criteria

Hello, there. I am working on creating a data collection template for my colleagues and I am struggling to figure out the right formula to count what I need. I am trying to find out the number of unique police precincts that have at least 1 operational intervention site. So, Column C has Police precincts (some are repeated since multiple police sites can be within one precinct). Column E lists if it is operational MPP site, Column G lists if it is an operational PBS site and column L lists if it an operational PSM site. I need excel to look through column C and first identify only unique precincts, then look through those rows for "operational" in AT least one of the 3 columns (E,G,L) without double counting, and produce a count of all the precincts that meet the criteria.

I've attached a picture of the data table.

Any help on this would be so appreciated!

There'll be a moderator along shortly to ask why you didnt read rule 1

    https://www.excelforum.com/forum-rul...rum-rules.html

The thread subject needs to describe the problem, not the fact you need Help.
Change the subject before a moderator comes along (am not sure how to do this personally as I've always described the thread subject correctly).

Also you're better off attaching a subject rather than an image. Noone wants to retype data youve already entered.
    However...

Post a sample spreadsheet with expected results, remove any sensitive data, create a mockup example if necessary.
Use the Go Advanced option at the bottom of the page then scroll down to Manage Attachments as the "paperclip" method does not work on this forum.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

Re: Trying to find out the number of unique items based on criteria

    Welcome to the forum!

Sorry, but your thread title is not good enough. Generic titles tell us nothing. I have changed it for you this time to show you what we shall expect from you in future.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.
