Exclamation Looking through different lease dates (vlookup or index match?) to find the current tenant

    Hello everyone,

So I have a list, with several columns, that lists our various leases and their date ranges. Some are for the same unit number.

I am trying to create a formula (has to be on Google sheets) that is able to find the lease that falls on today's date (aka today is after the start date, and before the end date) and use a lookup to pull the current tenant. The issue is that there are several leases for the same units, and thus there are duplicates.

I need a formula that locates a unit number, and then sorts through them to give me which one is current.

See attached image for the layout of the sheet; picture duplicated number in the far left column.

By duplicates, do you mean there are multiple leases in the same unit with overlapping dates, or just that completed leases are still listed, so that each unit has one-and-only-one tenant right now, but it includes people that used to rent it?

If they overlap you're going to need something pretty exotic, but if it's a one-and-only one situation, it would be something like:
