Adding Portions of Web addresses to make hyperlinks in excel

I'm trying to come up with a way to add three sections of a web address in order to create a hyperlink out of the concluded result. this might sound a bit odd and i would add a bunch of detail however this form will not yet allow me to until i have posted a few more time.

The idea is to use a web address from google maps, then break it down to add my job site address and then add a pit address and convert this into a hyperlink. (adding a: From: Destination and a To: Destination).

I have been able to accurately add these pieces together however i need to figure out a formula, i order to expedite this process. lots of pits and lots of jobs.

Currently i have been using the ="cell"&"cell" and have been successful adding "words" together, however it seems like excel dose not recognize this as anything more then a function.

I need a way to return the calculated sum back to original text. and then covert this into a hyperlink so i can click and pull up the mapping distance.

Put your composite string inside the HYPERLINK function.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Adding Portions of Web addresses to make hyperlinks in excel

Hey Guys thanks for the help i think i understand what your getting at here but time is of the essence i know i can input the data in a hyperlink web link section, however my reasoning behind all this is to expedite this process.

currently i have approximately 25 locations i have to add to and from address to, ill need to do this to every job i work on, which is usually about 3-4 a week. i would like to build something so my pit physical address are ready to go on the To: destination. and then just adding one from address to generate 25 web links. this will give me travel times and truck routing fast. Due to traffic this would be exceptionally helpful considering drive times will vary throughout the day. im paying 130 dollars an hour for each truck rented. (some times upwards of 15-30 Trucks) depending on my travel time i may need to redirect the drivers to other pits that my be more expensive with dump fees however become cheaper due to current driving conditions.

    1st portion of EquationSTARTER BLOCK) Blahpsslashslash)wwgo oglecm - maps - dir -
2nd portion of EquationSITE ADDRESS) 1815+c+st+sw+auburn+wa+98002
    3rd portion of EquationPIT SITE) - 16805+64th+St+E, +Sumner,+WA+98390- (at)47.2020064,-122.2414178,10842m- data=!3m2! 1e3! 4b1! 4m14!4m13! 1m5!1m1!1s0x5490fa30a1828e51:0xec1c7ad76305dd94!2m2!1d-122.2063126!2d47.2020118!1m5!1m1!1s0x5490fa30a1828e51:0xec1c7ad76305dd94!2m2!1d-122.2063126!2d47.2020118!3e0

For the 3rd portion if i only have to find this information one time that would be fine considering the pit locations will not change.

for the 2nd portion if i had my equation built i would only theoretically need to build this address one time.

the idea again is to add these three blocks together and convert the sum to a hyperlink.

    Thanks again guys

It’s not at all clear what you want.

Have you generated a string that if you copy and paste into a browser directly opens the page as you want?

If not, you need to do that first, one no real idea what you’re trying to do or the site you’re trying to use so I can’t help there.

If you do have this link, I don’t quite follow what the issue is; all you need to do is put it in the hyperlink function. I.e =hyperlink(your string) or =hyperlink(A1&B1&C1) for example

Re: Adding Portions of Web addresses to make hyperlinks in excel

    Kyle,

I have tried your example, and it will show "#value!" in the cell which appears like a hyperlink. could it be that the information is to many characters?

To help better understand what i am trying to accomplish

i work for a earthwork construction outfit, and need to constantly haul rock and dirt materials to and from Dump/Quarry pit locations.
there are several pits, and we serve several clients.

i would like to set up a excel page for the jobs with out manually entering the address Via copy and past

I use google maps to identify the routes and estimated travel times.

if i had a template where i could enter the construction site address in. i would hope to populate hyperlinks from that site to all the pits around so with one click i can see the current route and delays. i would like to do this all from excel so when the hyperlink loads it will already have the route built in to the hyperlink.

The way i view it would be like this.

Control Variable 1: Google Maps Directions
Manipulated Variable 1: Construction site Address
Manipulated Variable 2: Dump Pit Address
Control Variable 2: Current Location (Lat/Lon)

I hope that helps better understand what i am trying to accomplish.

    Thanks Kyle!

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
