Removing First Name and Leaving First Initial

Have a column of 600 or so names that I need to remove the first name but leave the first initial.

Column currently reads:
Schmidt, Jack
Smith, Michael

to

Schmidt, J
Smith, M

Does anyone have a formula for how to do this? I've tried everything I know and I can't seem to get it right.
