Conditional formatting assistance

Hello,

I am trying to make a conditional format happen to cells A2:J2 if J2 has any text in it. however when i do my conditional format i can only make cell A1 highlight. no others even though i highlight the other cells prior to conditional format. am i doing something wrong?

also is there a way to make this condition apply the whole way down the sheet? so if J(whatever) has a 1 in it then A(same number as J) is highlighted?

Highlight the range A2:J? and use formula
=ISTEXT($J2)

I used =J2=1 while highlighting A2:J2 and when I place a 1 in J2 it only highlights A2. Basicly I can only make 1 cell highlighting not all of them that I highlight before adding a formula

To format all cells in the desired range based on the value of a particular column in the range use:
=$J2=1
Without the '$' the formula checks each cell in the range for the condition
