Locking linked cells and then unlocking after moving

    Hay Guys

So I need some help with moving some data around.

Currently all the data I have is sitting in 1 column.

All of that data is being taken from another sheet so =location name of sheet cell reference

I need to move that data to another column BUT if I try to copy it then it will be x number of rows out depending on how far I copy it.

what I think I need to do is lock the cells using $$ but I want to do this all in one go rather than one cell at a time manually.

Is there a simple way to do this?

I am reasonably good with excel but not doing VB lookup things.

    Thanks for the assistance!

This would also help when I need to add rows and columns in too!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Locking linked cells and then unlocking after moving

    Hi there

Essentially I have cells that look like this =[Book1]Sheet2!D7
What I want is a fast way to make a selection of these cells become like this =[Book1]Sheet2!$D$7 so that I can then move the cells without having to change the linked cell ever time.

Thanks for your help this site is soooo good for this sort of thing.
