Assigning a value to a word

Hello,

I am currently doing a feasibility study, and one part of this is looking at multiple parameters and multiplying them together to get a 'Feasibility' value. An example tables is shown below.

Cat. 1 Cat 2. Cat 3. Cat 4. Feasibility value
A X R G
B Y S H

What I want is to multiply all categories and get a feasibility value, by assigning a value to A, B, C etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have a lookup Table and use VLOOKUP to return the values assigned to the letters.

In brief, VL1 * VL2 * VL3 * VL4 where VLn =
