IF function

Hello all!

Im tyring to create an excel sheet that will let me know how many types of labels to put on a sheet, to minimize print costs.

So far, so good.

Im struggling with a formula to finish it off, i think its because my mind has been drained of sense.

the only way i can explain it is;

If D24 is the same as C47 - then its correct
if its lower, you need to add {this many} to make it correct
if its higher, you need to loose {this many} to make it correct

Please help!

I think something like

under the presumption that C47 is the cell that holds the wanted number of labels and D24 has the actual number of labels
This will give tou a + number if you need to add labels and a - number if you need to reduce the amount of labels.

ofcourse you may need to switch around the cells if the wanted number is not in C47, I cant know what it is without seeing the sheet.
please keep in mind that on excel forum an example file is required or at least very usefull to be able to get the right answer.. most questions are very hard to understand without the context of an example file.

that will give you 0 if equal to, plus and minus depending of over or under needed amount..
