Generating Poisson distributed random variables

Hi all,

I need to generate Poisson distributed random variables and do not know how.

For standard normal distributed random variables i just used the reverse function of standard normal distributation of the function random variable, but for Poisson there does not exist any reverse distributation function.

thanks, but that answer didn't help me at all. I don't need to get probabilities at a poisson distributation, I need random variables, which are calculated with the REVERSE poisson distributation with probabilities as input.

I would not say that a reverse Poisson function does not exist, only that Excel's programmers have not provided an inverse function.

I put "inverse poisson function" into my favorite internet search engine and found the following:

I also see that other programming languages (like matlab) have a built in inverse poisson functions.
