    Autogenerate column

    Hello,

I am attempting to do a couple of things to my excel sheet. I am attempting to create a drop down tab (filter I think it would be) so I can select a number (in my case a number 701-712) and then the next column would auto populate with a letter sequence that corresponds with the number selected. Here is an example:

Say in cell A2 I want to select the filter that is 701, once I have that entered in then cell B2 would have the sequence TATAGCCT that would appear without me having to type anything in.

It is fine if the filter doesn't work, all that really matters is that the letter sequence that corresponds to the number appears next to it. I know I could use an If/than equation, but that would be comblesome since I have 12 numbers and sequences in a set. So 701 corresponds to TATAGCCT, 702 with ATAGAGGC, 703 CCTATCCT and so on all the way to 712.

    Is this possible?

Let's say you have a table of codes in sheet2 A2:B1000. You can use a VLOOKUP

In sheet 1, assuming your number is in A2
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Oh my goodness gracious!! You are my hero!! All the index numbers and sequences that are associated with them have been a nightmare with more samples being submitted!!! You have just saved me hours of work, being yelled out for mess-ups, and looking like an incompetent idiot. Thank you so much!
