    Index Match to closed Workbook

    Hi All,

I am currently attempting to write a formula to refer to another table in a closed workbook. However what I thought was the correct way seems to be continually returning a #REF! error and also 'adding' :#REF to my formula per the attached example.

Any ideas please why this formula wouldn't work and how I can correct it?

    Thanks,
    Gaz

Images of formulas are generally not very useful. What does the formula look like before Excel adds the #REF errors?

The second argument of your MATCH function is the sum of two ranges, which won't work unless you have entered your formula as an array formula. Can you clarify what you are doing?

    Hi,

Yes it is being entered as an array formula. The formula is exactly the same just minus the #REF you see added in yellow.

    Thanks

If it read Parent:!$A$B, it's wrong. It should be Parent!$A$B.

Hi, no sorry the colon (:) was not there, this was entered at the same time the #REF appeared following completion,

    Thanks

I can't tell you why the formula doesn't work, nor how to correct it. I can offer that since you are using the subscription version of Excel, Power Query (Get & Transform) might serve as an alternative way to access the information in the other workbook as per the information in the Highline college video linked below.
