referencing cells

Hello everyone,
Can you do a one-time reference to a cell in another workbook? I need a 2 digit number from the last day of the month in a previous workbook to carry over to the first day of the month in the current month.

Hello,
I don't know if I'm using the right wordage for this concept. I couldn't think of anything else but "one-time reference". lol. I am using a formula that references a cell in a previous day's sheet. At the end of the month, I create a new workbook and that formula doesn't work unless I reference the cell in the other workbook. That's fine for me, but I email this to 20ish people on a daily basis and when they receive it on day one of the month it does not display correctly because the workbook is looking for the referenced workbook saved in my computer. The information in th referenced cell is not static, otherwise I would just plug in the number.

Before going too far it would be useful to see the workbook you're talking about.

There may well be a more efficient and elegant way of achieving your goal.

Hello Mr. Buttrey,
I will see about changing the information in this workbook because it is confidential information. I work at a Skilled Nursing Facility and the workbook contains information that I cannot share with the public. I would be in violation of our HIPAA laws. Sorry. It might take me some time before I can get to changing the information. I just wanted to make the workbooks independent of each other. Thanks everyone.
