Lightbulb Conditionally Format According to Food Groups & sort the rows to be grouped in colour/food

    Hi All,

This is a tricky one, at least for me. I have created a fake little table that may not make all that much sense but just for demonstration purposes. (Do not encourage this kind of diet )

Could someone tell me if this is possible?

    ExcelTable.png

I have a table, I have set a conditional formatting rule that dictates that each food group a colour for the whole row.

    Screenshot_16.png

I then on a new sheet want to use data validations of the names of the food with the current date. What I want to happen is that if the date = TODAY() then colour the row based on the food group that food falls under.

Then I would like to sort the rows to be grouped in colour/food group

Seems pretty complicated but for a few different spreadsheets, a capability like this would be fantastic.

    Any help would be fantastic

    Cheers
    Gabs

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are still new here, I have done it for you this time, however next time we expect you to use a more suitable title yourself.)

Re: Conditional Formatting - Using Conditional Formatting across multiple sheets

I had changed the thread title for you and you now seem to have changed it back to something less useful.

I've changed it again - please note what I have done so you know the sort of detail we expect in a title.

Please confirm that you have now read and understood our rules (especially regarding thread titles and code tags).

What you want to achieve is feasible, however overloading your workbook with CF can be an issue:

    1. It can slow down your workbook if over-used.
    2. It can render the worksheet an assault on the eyes and therefore hard to read - the opposite of the intended effect.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will you please attach a small sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment (it hasn't worked for years, and despite our repeatedly asking the technical team who own the forum to fix it, they can't be bothered to do so), so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

    Hi AliGW,

Is it possible for you to please delete my threads so I can start fresh? I don't want to annoy anyone else. I have taken screenshots of your requests suggestions so I can make sure I am doing it right the next time. Thanks

No, sorry - you must continue here. You have not annoyed anyone and there is no problem as long as you abide by the rules going forward.

I will clean the thread up a little, but please don't open a new thread or you'lll be in trouble again for thread duplication!
