    Not getting IF functions

Hi all, please forgive my utter newbieness to the world of Excel. I'm in need of some serious help and I'm hoping someone here is kind enough to save the day.

I have a table right now relating to keys (physical ones). They're numbered 1-100 and I have a column in my table called "Sets" that I'm currently just typing in to acknowledge which keyset that specific key appears in - sometimes none, sometimes many.

I had a thought and have set up a second sheet on which I have the name of the keyset (for example, Alice's Personal) followed by cells containing the key numbers on that set. What I'd like to do is find a way to have the keyset column check if the number of the key (in column A of sheet1) appears anywhere within a range on the second sheet (so for example lets say "Alice's Personal" is written in A1 and B2 to F6 have the numbers 1 to 5 in them), and if it does then the value in A1 ("Alice Personal") appears in the specific cell in the keyset column.

I'm really struggling to think of how to do this. Originally I tried to use IF, so like =IF(Sheet2!B2:F6=A1:A101,"Alice's Personal","")

But I keep getting a value error. Not even sure IF can be used like that.

Basically: please help me I beg of you.

    Re: Not getting IF functions

It would help if you attached a sample Excel workbook.

To do this, click on Go Advanced (below the Edit Window) while you are composing a reply, then scroll down to and click on Manage Attachments and the Upload window will open. Click on Browse and navigate to (and double-click) the file icon that you want to attach, then click on Upload and then on Close this Window to return to the Edit window. When you have finished composing your post, click on Submit Post.

Don't try to use the Paperclip icon, as it doesn't work on this forum.

I won't be able to help you myself, as I'm just about to go to bed, and tomorrow I'm off to Switzerland for a week, but I'm sure someone else will chip in when they can download your file.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
