Formula to separate joined numbers in one column into two columns or two separate cells

    Hi Folks,
I need to separate two sets of numbers into two separate cells or columns.
I have uploaded an excel sheet with the issue.
The numbers are typed into one cell and separated by a colon eg 102:451
I want to separate the date into two cell or columns
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    Try this:

    =--LEFT(B2,FIND(":",B2)-1)

    and this:

    =--MID(B2,FIND(":",B2)+1,5)

    Hi AliG,
    That works.
If you have the time, could you explain that formula as you would - to a 5yr old?
    Thank you

Use the Evaluate Formula feature on the Formulas ribbon to step through them - you will then see how they work.

Just following up "just in case". I see the cells you put your data in are formatted as "General". Given that, is it ever possible for the number after the colon to be 59 or less? If so, those entries will actually become time values and Ali's formula would need to be adjusted to account for that.
