Excel Conditional Word Count

I need to create word count for each cell in a column in the sheet. I am running into issues because excel is counting " - " as a word. I need a conditional formula that will skip non-words/symbols in the cell. Please see the attached example where I have the sample student answers to the question in Column B (word limit is 5 words) and the word count is Column C (with conditional formatting turn red if the word count is over 5).

You could try this and add more substitutes if you wanna exclude the numbers. Otherwise, A VBA approach would be better:
