Wink Llnks not working unless source workbook is open - is there a solution?

    Hi

I know this is not a new query but I cannot find a solution to it anywhere and wondered whether there is one.
I have a summary workbook which is the destination book linked to 3 other source files.
When I have the destination book open any changes made in the source files updates ok.
When the destination book is closed and changes are made in any of the source files the destination file will not be updated.
This is a problem when one of the source files has rows added or deleted, it affects the formula which does not update to accommodate the new information.
Is there a way that this can happen automatically without having to go and check each time?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
    regards
    Billy

Certain functions, like INDIRECT, do not work on closed workbooks. Perhaps that's the issue? I believe you can use other options such as INDEX to maintain the correct linking.

    Thanks Paul,
This is simply where the (for example) destination workbook cell = a cell in the source book. Works fine until it is closed and the source book has a row added to it and then the formula is not updated to recognise the new row and so the two cells no longer reflect each other. Would INDEX solve this?

It's normally that closed (destination) file can not recognize the change in source file.
But if you named the cell in source file and link to destination file by name, destination file
can resolve a new address of link cell by resolve name address.

    Regards.
