Unique drop down list of values based on criteria in other column(s)

Hello Community,

I am working on the ability to generate a list of equipment on a given work task based on the Equipment Make, Model, and ID#

I am using a table to list all the different pieces of equipment available to the work site. That way it is easier to add equipment to the list of possible equipment. I have been able to figure out how to generate a unique list of values in column, but has been locked up on generating a unique drop down list based on a known value in another cell.

Basically, when I select the Equipment Type I want the Equipment Model drop down to contain only the models for that type. Further, once I select a model, only the IDs that are associated with that type and model.

I have attached a spreadsheet "book 1" with the unique lists that I have generated, named ranges, and drop_down lists for your playing pleasure.

A quick google search of "Cascading Dropdowns" for Excel should give you what you are looking for with step by step instructions.

I'm finding that my situation is a bit more unique than what that search turned up. It appears that the way the table are set up in that method does not apply to how I need to set up my table for users to easily add the information and track each line item uniquely.

I took a look at your spreadsheet and I think I know what you are looking for. If you go to Sheet2 and Filter the table column "equip-type" for "Service Truck" your unique lists will automatically update on Sheet2 to the values you want. Am I correct in assuming that you are looking for a dropdown in Sheet1 that will allow for the selection of "equip-type" which will update the second dropdown to only show the unique values for the selection in the first dropdown and then, the third dropdown would be only those unique values relative to the 1st and 2nd selections in the dropdowns?

If the answer to the above is yes, then by creating the dropdowns using data validation and making the selections the unique range names from Sheet 2, the problem to solve will be how to filter the table on Sheet2 based on the selection from the dropdowns on Sheet1.
