Find and Replace - Replacing Values on One Sheet with Values from Another

    Hi,

I have 2 sheets with data, the one has two columns where the data in one column (column 1) is married to the other column (column 2) (cell by cell). On the other sheet 2, I have a huge data set and one of the columns has the same data as column 1 from the Sheet 1 (just a lot more rows of it). I want to find the best function or formula to replace that data in sheet 2 (same data as column 1 on sheet 1) with the data from sheet 1, column 2. in essence if on sheet 1, column 1, I have banana and that is to be replaced with orange (which is in sheet 1, column 2 just for that row), now I want to replace the banana on sheet 2 with the orange on sheet 1, column 2. I would like to set the function to use the whole table from sheet 1 rather than to go one by one with the find and replace function.

    Thanks in advance!

    Yoyo

Your thread title is no good. What would you have used if you were searching GOOGLE for an answer? I can't follow your request, so cant help suggesting an alternative. Also:

Please read the yellow banner and attach a SMALL sample sheet, with good data and a few manually calculated answers.

Re: Replacing Values on One Sheet with Values from Another

I have attempted to update the thread title, but it needs more work.

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

    Hi,

Please disregard my post, I found help in another forum, since I needed a solution ASAP.

    Glad you got it sorted.

    But.

You said that you have posted the same question elsewhere.... but didn't tell us. Feel free to cross-post on other sites... Every forum has its rules. Please see Forum Rule #3 about cross-posting. So.

Do not keep it a secret. We all are willing to give you our time, freely. However, some of us (especially me!!) get very annoyed if we waste our time developing a solution for you, when you already have a nice solution elsewhere. All we ask is that you show us some respect and tell us:

    1) if you have cross-posted, and

    2) the URL of the cross post(s).

That way, those of us who don't want to waste their time can quickly check to see if you're already happy with another solution.

Re: Find and Replace - Replacing Values on One Sheet with Values from Another

Thanks for all the heads up, all I wanted to find out is suggestions on the function type I should use, but what I got was that my posts wasn't good, the thread name wasn't good either. I changed it as well as followed direction to include example. Nobody looked at it, so I went somewhere else for help. I am sorry if you think I wasted your time, but I also wasted my time making my post fit your standards for which I didn't even get one response with any kind of suggestion. Maybe instead of bombarding me with how and what the thread should look like you could have found details of what the actual problem was and give suggestions for solving it. I guess this forum is not for me so please feel free to delete my account.
