    SUMIF or SUMIFS

Do I need a SUMIF or SUMIFS formula? Not sure how to properly create this formula, or if this is even the right one to use here.

I have a summary table on one tab (Summary) with expense categories that I need to summarize from the Product Sched tab. The sum needs to be by the appropriate month, capturing all of the expenses for the month that are categorized as "Pre-Clinical Studies" for example, regardless of which product they are associated with.

    Please see attached example.
    Thanks!!

    Re: SUMIF or SUMIFS

Basically, SUMIF is used only for a single condition, whereas SUMIFS can be used for multiple conditions. It seems to me that you have two conditions, i.e. month and category, but I'll take a look shortly after I've had a coffee break.

    Re: SUMIF or SUMIFS

Actually, there is only one condition, but you can still use SUMIFS in this situation. Put this formula in cell D3:

    =SUMIFS('Product Sched'!D:D,'Product Sched'!$B:$B,$B3)

Then you can copy across and down as required.

    Hope this helps.

    Glad to help.
