    Forumula That References A Second Cell

    I have a spreadsheet (Hmm, that might have been a redundant statement here...) with a formula that counts the number of times an item occurs in the column below it.
    The item that my formula is looking for changes at least once a day, since the column gets modified in much the same way.
    But rather than modifying the formula or function every day, I'd like it to point to a cell that I change the parameter in.
    IE:
    My formula is...
    "=COUNTIF(C2:C200,"153")"
    But where the 153 sits, I'd like that to be able to point to a cell that I'm changing, which would be much easier for 'updating' the count search. For example, E1 in place of 153, then I could change cell E1 instead of editing my count formula.

    I've been scouring the web but I'm not using the right verbiage to find a clue. All my hits come up with nada.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    It should be as simple as putting your 153 into any usable cell and referencing that cell =COUNTIF(C2:C200,D1) [assuming you enter 153 into D1] will perform the same count.

    OMG... how simple was that... I was so over-thinking it!
    Thank you! You can't imagine how long I've been trying to figure this one out.
