Data validation deletes formula - any way around?

    hi
I have on sheet 10 formula which filters out the raw data from fixture tab to show only 'Coalville'
this information brings across suggested team pitch, and venue,

ideally, I would like to add data validation/drop down list that can override these selection if we need to , however current set up if time changed just messes everything up

ive made everything simple, so before anyone asks that the raw data is a mess, the data is pulled across from the league websites like this; hence why a separate formula filter was thought on

the end user has basical knowledge of excel, hence didnt want together into filters, and editing raw data etc

    any help ?

That person was me!! Did you evaluate the formula in your previous thread? Did it work or not? Some feedback is always appreciated.

    hi glen,
it looks messy as sometimes the fixtures per age group increase hence few spaces in between

did you get what I meant about drop down list in this topic

No. Not yet. I was waiting for you to close out your previous thread which I replied to. You never provided any feedback on whether it worked/didn't work/was a complete misunderstanding of your problem....

    Some feedback helps!!

Your file is non-functional. The formula in 10 looks like this:

    =IFERROR(__xludf.DUMMYFUNCTION("FILTER(Fixtures!D2:J1500,ISNUMBER(SEARCH(""Coalville"",Fixtures!D2:D1500)))"),"Coalville Town Ravenettes U8 Ravenettes")

I have no idea what __xludfDUMMYFUNCTION is doing. The DDs in the yellow bit seem to function as expected.

    Hi
    The highlighted yellow

I wanted a vlookup that brings the result back but if we need to change
For example a kick off or venue then use of a drop down list
However when you do this it deletes the formula of the vlookup

It will do. You can not have a formula and a value in a cell. Not without VBA.

    any there suggestion,

I want the pitch, time and venue to return there default, however with the option to override.
however when we update the fixtures tab- this is done automatically

Re: Data validation deletes formula - any way around?

It cannot be done. You would have to change it in the raw data. As I said, you can have a value, or a formula in a cell - not both.
