AverageIfs stops working

I've a fairly long list of values from which I want to determine average values for a set of related values.

In the attached, the AverageIfs formula works fine until it gets to 115 matching; then from 117 onwards I get a Divide/0 error. I think all the cells have number values (not text) and there are no zero values so I'm confused as to why it stops working.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Because there is no 117 value in the range c2:c2035 that you specify

Why not use a Pivot Table

I'm just not a fan of pivot tables for some reason; likely stubbornness.

It would pay you to spend 30 minutes playing with a pivot table. You will derive rich rewards.

In your case a PT would take 30 seconds to create and show you the averages for all your column A refs.

Understood.
I do use them but I just end up doing other things that require more fiddling and then the pivot table doesn't lend itself to that as easily so I kinda start off without using pivot tables.
